While it was not in the best of shape, it struck me that restoring it would be a great project. Fixing up that old clunker was a lot of fun. Many auto repair shops will charge you a flat fee for simply hooking your vehicle up to their diagnostic machine so that the check engine light code can be read. However, you might be able to save yourself a little bit of money by allowing a major auto parts store to check the code for you. Many stores are now offering this service for free because they want your business. They want you to know what is wrong with your vehicle so you will then go back into the store and purchase the parts that are needed.

Don't Always Go For The Cheapest Part

Some people will make the mistake of assuming that they save money by opting for the cheapest part for the vehicle. However, if that part is so cheap that it is not going to last long, replacing it for a second time will surely cost you more money than if you simply made use of a higher quality, yet slightly more expensive part right from the start.

Does the auto repair shop need a little help answering the phones, taking payments, or simply getting the place cleaned up and organized? If so, you have the option of offering to help them as a trade for a reduction in the cost of the repairs for your vehicle. While you might not be able to work off the entire balance of your bill, you should be able to put a nice-sized dent in it if the auto repair shop owner agrees to the deal.

As you can see, there are many ways you can try to make sure that you are saving money on your auto repairs. Just be sure to be creative and be persistent and you should have no problem reducing the total amount of your bill. Remember, not all suggestions will work with all of the different auto repair companies, so you just have to suggest various ideas until the shop owner finds own that he or she can agree to work with.
